Today I am SO excited to announce that Little Dove Portraits will be one of the silent auction donors for the Lupus Foundation of America – the Lone Star Chapter’s Gala coming up this September. This is this is a cause that is very dear to my heart because of my own personal battle with Lupus.

Two photo sessions will be up for grabs – one family session valued at $495 AND one newborn & family session valued at $595. There will be plenty of other sponsors auctioning off great items in a night of western elegance that includes casino games, wine pull, and a lot of fun entertainment.

What is Lupus?

For years I had been experiencing strange pain symptoms on and off, but never considered that I had anything physically wrong with me. “I must have slept wrong..” I often thought to myself when I woke up feeling stiff and sore. Making excuses for myself and why I was feeling the way I did was constant in my world. It was totally normal for me to fall asleep drinking my afternoon coffee! I may have been in my 30’s but my body felt like I was much older. Brain fog? Yes – all the time! Fever would sometimes take over my body out of nowhere and my joints would throb with pain, but then it would disappear as mysteriously as it began. I was tired all the time, but “what mom isn’t tired..?” I would tell myself.

It became where I was incapable of carrying out simple tasks like changing my daughter’s diapers and buckling her into her carseat for the pain in my hands. Even picking up a coffee mug or my camera was no small task without using both hands and gritting my teeth. Then finally in January 2018 I heard my doctor say three little words that changed my life, “You have Lupus”.

Things changed for the better as I got on medications, but I will never be cured from it. Many women are afflicted with this horrible autoimmune disease and I love that I am helping raise money and awareness to a cause so near and dear to my heart.
