The condition is MRKH (short for Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser) and affects about 1 in 4500 women. This mama was born with MRKH but after receiving a uterus transplant, she is almost […]
I was fortunate to see firsthand what an MRKH before and after looks like. As it turns out, you really can be born without a uterus. The condition is MRKH (short for Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser) and affects about 1 in 4500 women. This mama was born with MRKH but after receiving a uterus transplant, she is almost ready to welcome her baby girl into the world.
This mama’s story is made up of equal parts love, determination and sacrifice to meet her baby girl. Because of being born without a uterus, motherhood never stood on her radar. With the help of a donor she received a uterus transplant and is now well into her third trimester.
During this maternity photoshoot, she proudly bared her transplant scar as a badge of honor and wanted to remember it by documenting. The fall sun was so perfect and made the perfect backdrop for this pregnancy photoshoot.
MRKH before and after
Not long after we did the maternity pictures, she welcomed her baby girl into the world and I got to photograph her newborn photos too!
This sweet baby was a dream to photograph! I love it when I get babies in the studio like her. Since mama was a fan of purple, we selected a palate of purples mixed with neutral colors. I couldn’t resist using my little teddy bear felted stuffy. Newborn props are some of my favorite things to stock in the studio and I love opportunities to use them.
I’ve been wanting to write this post about MRKH syndrome and share some MRKH pictures for quite some time. I’m excited I finally got the chance. If you know someone or have MRKH yourself there are lots of online resources for uterus transplant and to learn more about MRKH syndrome.
