I often get asked, “When is the best time to take maternity pictures?” Simply put, you should try to schedule your maternity photoshoot when you are between 28-34 weeks pregnant. At 28 weeks you should have a round bump to showcase and beyond 34 weeks is on borrowed time. That being said, earlier is always better than waiting incase baby comes early. This hold true especially for twin mom as they usually give birth sooner than later.
Is 39 weeks too late for a maternity photoshoot?
You should really listen to your body and how you feel as you will be the judge on that. I try to keep walking to a minimum and we don’t stray too far from the parking lot where we begin. Depending on the amount of family members participating, all the poses are usually done within 30 minutes. The best time for maternity photos is when you are feeling more energized.
Is 25 weeks too early for pregnancy pictures?
If you are a first time mom, your bump may not be showing as prominent as other second and third time moms. Everyone carries differently and If you feel like your bump is showing enough for your liking then you should schedule your maternity photoshoot.
How should I dress my family for a family maternity shoot?
I have a few dresses in my studio wardrobe that you may borrow at no extra cost. You can take a peek at the studio wardrobe here. For an outdoor maternity shoot, I always bring my pop up tent so you can change discreetly in the parking lot from your regular clothing. The best time to take maternity pictures when done outdoors is usually the late afternoon right before sunset.

I am an artist, wife, mom, foodie, coffee aficionado, animal lover and adore all things magical. I am blessed to be a mom of 2 amazing kids that both bring endless joy to my life. Beyond photography, I love to sew and many of the adorable outfits and accessories seen on the babies I photograph are handmade by me. After graduating from the Art Institute of Dallas in 2006 I briefly worked in the fashion industry until I became pregnant with my son in 2008. My children have been my biggest inspiration in my journey as a portrait photographer and continue to challenge me every day!
Newborn babies and belly bumps have always had a special place in my heart and it is an honor to get to work with so many wonderful families. I look forward to meeting you and capturing your family’s unique story
